About Arthur

My name is Arthur Aston. In 1981 I was born with a birth defect known as Spina Bifida, which is the most

common permanently disabling birth defect in the United States. I had a hole in my back and my spinal cord

could be seen. Each case of Spina Bifida is unique. My hole was located at the L3-L4 level, of my spinal cord,

and as a result, I only have feeling to my knees; below the knees I cannot feel things that are hot or cold, or

things that may cause pain.

"I praise you, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful and I know that full well"

Psalm 139:14.

Although at birth, I was not given the best projected outcome, now as an adult, I am a living testament to

know what it means to have life and to truly live.  I enjoy traveling and have had the chance to see some of

the greatest cities in this great country. I enjoy writing poetry and reading. I especially enjoy reading

autobiographies, as I am a firm believer in the saying that we all have a story to tell. Some stories that have

touched and inspired me are the stories of people like Paralympians;  April Holmes, Matt Scott, and Jean

Driscoll, and motivational/ Inspirational speakers; Nick Vujicic and John Tartaglio.

I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Masters Degree in Psychological Counseling.

I am completing courses to receive a PhD in Advanced Studies in Human Behaviors.

As I have continued to grow and experience life through living with a disability, I have taken note of the

ignorance concerning the quality of life of those with physical disabilities and have thus taken on the mission

to educate and raise awareness among the current and future generations of youth about people living with

physical disabilities.
